Emergency Nursing is a New Academic Discipline for India. Fellowship of the Academy for Clinical Emergency Nursing in India (FACEN-INDIA) began in 2011

Nurses go through a lifelong process of perfecting their learned practices. They learn these practices at their Nursing colleges. It is the Nursing colleges which award them their credentials. The birth place of any emergency nurses expertise is the training institution hence if any new science has to be developed and taught the ideal sites are none other than Emergency departments across India. The role of Academic Emergency departments is crucial in developing a cadre of trained emergency nurses and fellowship in Emergency nursing will be the stepping stone for improving emergency care all over India.

With the introduction of Clinical Emergency Nursing as an independent discipline the doors have opened for nursing colleges to pursue initiatives to create free standing academic courses in conjunction with departments of Emergency Medicine which can train the future nurses for this exciting and important specialty.
